Dr Phay Yew Ming

After graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore, Phay Yew Ming served as a dental officer in the RSAF at Tengah Airbase. Thereafter, he pursued a Master of Science degree in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London, before joining the practice established by his father, Dr Phay Thong Huat.

 

Yew Ming has been actively involved in teaching at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore since 1986. He currently holds the appointment of Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. In pursuing his interest in oral rehabilitation with dental implants he obtained the Certificate of Oral Implantology (University of Frankfurt) in 2004. He was conferred Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, in 2006 and is a Ministry of Health(Singapore) accredited specialist in Prosthodontics.

 

Yew Ming is acutely aware of how daunting it is for many patients to face dental treatment. He helps them to overcome this challenge by first involving them in treatment planning and subsequently strives to provide this treatment with the minimum of discomfort.

 

Yew Ming keeps fit by playing tennis and building endurance in the gym. He also enjoys windsurfing when time permits.

 

Dr. Benjamin T.K. Tan

Dr. Benjamin T.K. Tan is a Ministry of Health (Singapore) accredited Specialist in Periodontology.  He specialises in provision of dental implants, treatment of gum disease, bad breath and periodontal cosmetic surgery.

 

He received his training in Periodontology and Dental Implantology, under the renowned Professor Maurizio Tonetti, at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London.  He obtained his Master of Science and Master of Clinical Dentistry (with distinction) in 2000. 

 

He is an adjunct senior lecturer at the Department of Preventive Dentistry and Centre for Advanced Dental Education, National University of Singapore and teaches in the Periodontal and Dental Implantology programmes.  

 

He is a member of the Dental Specialist Accreditation Board of Singapore, which oversees the training and accreditation of dental specialists in Singapore (2017- present).  He was previously member (2008-2017) and Chairperson (2012-2017) of the Dental Specialist Accreditation Committee in Periodontology, the examination board that conducts the exit examinations of candidates undergoing training to qualify as a Specialist Periodontist in Singapore. 

He has served as Councillor of the Asian-Pacific Society of Periodontology (2014-2017); Chairperson of the Chapter of Periodontists, College of Dental Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore (2009-2013); as well as President of the Society of Periodontology Singapore (2006 and 2007). 

 

Benjamin’s philosophy is to always attempt to salvage natural teeth rather than extract them, and to use non-surgical and conservative treatment options whenever possible.

 

Dr Basanti Sankaran

Dr Basanti Sankaran is a Dental Specialist in Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, FAMS Prosthodontics.  She received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Singapore in 1977 and her Master of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1982. She is also a part time Clinical Tutor at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore.


After completing her Master Degree, she served as a Prosthodontic Specialist at the Institute of Dental Health (IDH) and the Government Dental Clinic (GDC). At IDH, she was involved with lecturing and training of dental technicians and dental therapists. At GDC she was involved in the treatment of complex cases for partial and complete edentulous patients, maxillofacial prosthodontics and Implant Prosthodontics. She was Head of the Prosthetic Unit in the Department of Restorative Dentistry GDC from 1986 to 1992, before leaving public service for private practice. She was Director of her own practice for twenty-six years before joining Poon and Phay Dental Surgeons Pte Ltd.

Dr Basanti Sankaran’s main clinical interests are in Implant crowns and bridges, veneers for cosmetic dentistry and dentures for partial and complete edentulous patients. She is passionate about treating the elderly patient and providing the simplest prosthodontic rehabilitation to improve their quality of life.

She keeps updated with the latest developments in prosthodontics, and practices yoga and walks to keep fit.
