Dr Phay Yew Ming

After graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore, Phay Yew Ming served as a dental officer in the RSAF at Tengah Airbase. Thereafter, he pursued a Master of Science degree in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London, before joining the practice established by his father, Dr Phay Thong Huat.

 

Yew Ming has been actively involved in teaching at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore since 1986. He currently holds the appointment of Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. In pursuing his interest in oral rehabilitation with dental implants he obtained the Certificate of Oral Implantology (University of Frankfurt) in 2004. He was conferred Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, in 2006 and is a Ministry of Health(Singapore) accredited specialist in Prosthodontics.

 

Yew Ming is acutely aware of how daunting it is for many patients to face dental treatment. He helps them to overcome this challenge by first involving them in treatment planning and subsequently strives to provide this treatment with the minimum of discomfort.

 

Yew Ming keeps fit by playing tennis and building endurance in the gym. He also enjoys windsurfing when time permits.

Benjamin T.K. Tan is a leading Specialist Periodontist with over 27 years of clinical experience.  He specialises in treatment of advanced gum disease, bad breath, bone and tissue regeneration, provision of dental implants and periodontal cosmetic surgery.  He is adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and teaches both undergraduates and post-graduates in Periodontics and Dental Implantology.

 

Prof. Tan’s philosophy is to always attempt to salvage natural teeth rather than extract them, and to use non-surgical and conservative treatment options whenever possible.

He was a member of the Dental Specialist Accreditation Board of Singapore, which oversees the training and accreditation of dental specialists in Singapore (2017- 2022).  He was previously member (2008-2017) and Chairperson (2012-2017) of the Dental Specialist Accreditation Committee in Periodontology, the examination board that conducts the exit examinations of candidates undergoing training to qualify as a Specialist Periodontist in Singapore. He was External Examiner for the Intermediate Examination in Restorative Dentistry of The College of Dental Surgeon of Hong Kong (2020, 2021, 2022). 


He has served as Councillor of the Asian-Pacific Society of Periodontology (2014-2017); Chairperson of the Chapter of Periodontists, College of Dental Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore (2009-2013); as well as President of the Society of Periodontology Singapore (2006 and 2007). 

Prof. Tan is well regarded by his peers.  He has been invited to lecture by national Periodontal societies and dental universities, including the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology, International Congress of Oral Implantologist, Guangdong Medical Education Association, Japanese Society of Oral Implantology, Korean Academy of Periodontology, Hong Kong Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, Indian Society of Periodontology, The Indonesian Society of Periodontology, The Philippine Society of Periodontology, Malaysian Dental Association, Singapore Dental Association, University of Indonesia and Universitas Airlangga Indonesia.

 

His original research papers, published in the Journal of Periodontology and Journal of Clinical Periodontology, established the presence of viable bacteria within supragingival calculus.  They have been cited in the authoritative textbook of periodontology, Carranza’s Clinical Periodontology; as well as the high impact factor review journal, Periodontology 2000 (Teughels et al 2009, Jepsen et al 2010, Krishna & de Stefano 2016).

Dr Ida Mai graduated from Queen Mary University of London with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery. She served under the National Healthcare Service (NHS) in the UK with highly experienced mentors and had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of complex cases, including wisdom tooth surgeries, root canal treatment under sedation and full mouth rehabilitations. Under the NHS, she also had the privilege of managing patients from all social backgrounds. 

Dr Ida has been serving as a general practitioner since moving back to Singapore. She delivers a diverse range of dental treatments to her patients, from regular checkups to crowns, bridges, wisdom tooth surgeries, root canal treatments and aesthetics. She has a particular interest in root canal treatments and aesthetic dentistry. Dr Ida believes in full mouth rehabilitation for her patients and she completed an implant master course so as to incorporate implants into her patients’ treatment plans, to improve function as well as achieve desirable aesthetics. 

She has a friendly and approachable disposition with all her patients and understands that dental visits can be stressful for many. Patient’s comfort is her top priority and she takes the time to listen to each individual’s concern and involves them in every step of the treatment plan. Dentistry is a passion of hers and she continually attends courses and lectures, learning the best and latest methods so as to deliver the most up-to-date treatment plans for her patients. 

As a believer in giving back to the community, she volunteered in the Covid-19 response and joined the SG Healthcare Corps to support national swab operations. Dr Ida is an animal lover. She enjoys spending her days off with her cat, Bubba and dog, Rosie. She is also a keen artist, experimenting with water and acrylic media.
